The forecast for today is rather straightforward: RAIN. The rain could be heavy at times with rain totals through early Wednesday in the one to three inch range. After the rain ends Wednesday afternoon, colder air will arrive during Wednesday night setting us up for a chilly Thursday.

Forecast Discussion
Low pressure tracking from the lower Mississippi Valley through the Tennessee Valley today and tonight will direct rich, Gulf of Mexico moisture into the western Carolinas. Rain will be the by-product, and it could be heavy at times through tonight. This will serve as more excellent drought relief after a wetter-than-normal December.
A cold front will signal the end to the rain by early Wednesday afternoon. Clearing will get underway and colder air will arrive Wednesday night with a chilly Thursday in store.
Temperatures will moderate a bit on Friday with a good deal of sunshine. Yet another cold front will bring a few showers into the mountains and foothills on Saturday, before another reinforcing cold air mass arrives for Sunday.
